End-to-end encrypted in your browser

Private rooms that disappear. No account. No stored messages.

Create a room, share one link, talk. Messages are scrambled in your browser before they leave it, are never stored, and are gone when the chat ends.

Honest limits: nobody can read your messages on our servers, but servers can still see IP addresses and timing. Details

Stay safe. Use rooms only with people you know, and never share passwords, codes or payment details.

What the server sees

Type below. Your browser encrypts it with a throwaway key made when this page loaded. The right side is what would travel through our servers. This demo runs entirely in this page and sends nothing.

What you type

Readable. Only your browser and your room's members see this.

What the server sees

Random-looking bytes, and a room id that is a hash.

How it works

  1. 1

    Create

Your browser makes a random secret key. Nothing is sent anywhere.

  2. 2

    Share the link

The key sits after the # in the link. Browsers never send that part to a server.

  3. 3

    Chat

Everyone with the link talks in the same room. Messages are encrypted before they leave each browser.

  4. 4

    End chat

Anyone can end it. Every screen is wiped, and there is nothing on a server to find.

What we can and can't see

Private is not the same as invisible. Here is the honest list.

We can't

  • Read your messages. They are encrypted before they leave your browser.
  • See the room key. It lives after the # in the link and never reaches us.
  • Know who you are. There are no accounts, names or phone numbers.
  • Show anyone a chat history. Messages are never stored, so there is none.

We can

  • See your IP address and when you connect. So can our hosting provider, our realtime server and any proxy in front of them.
  • See that a room exists while it is open, and how many people are in it, under a hashed id. Not who they are or what is said.
  • Keep anonymous totals: visits, rooms created, joins and approximate unique visitors. Never IP addresses.

When a room helps

For private chats between people who know each other.

Share a sensitive detail

Say it once without leaving it in a chat history for good.

A client or support session

Talk a problem through without anyone installing an app or signing up.

A private talk at an event or class

Show the QR code, talk for a while, close the room when it ends.

A quick one-off group chat

Sort something out with a few people, then let it vanish.

Questions, with honest answers

Can anyone with the link join?

Yes, up to ten people. The link is the key, so share it only through a channel you trust. If it ends up in the wrong hands, end the chat and start a new room.

Can people screenshot or copy what I write?

Yes, and nothing can prevent that. Anyone in the room can copy, screenshot or forward anything you say.

Can you see my IP address?

Our servers can see it, like any website's can, along with the time you connect. We do not store IP addresses ourselves, but our hosting provider and realtime server keep their usual access records. Read the privacy page for the details.

What happens when I close the tab?

You lose access and your copy of the messages is gone. If the room is still open you can come back with the link, but you will not see anything said before. The link, with its key, may stay in your browser history, so use a private window for sensitive chats.

Can anyone moderate a room?

No. We cannot read rooms, so we cannot moderate them. That is why you should only join rooms from people you know. You can report abuse of the service.

How is it encrypted?

Your browser turns the secret in the link into a room id and an AES-GCM-256 key (HKDF-SHA256). Messages are encrypted with that key before they are sent. The code is plain JavaScript you can read, but you do trust the code you receive each time you open the page.

What does the "safety code" mean?

Four words derived from the same key. If everyone in the room sees the same four words, you all hold the same key. Compare them in another channel.
